Q&A with Marcus Roe

At GAWS of London Limited we are committed to supporting the next generation of insurance professionals, from our annual sponsorship of Assurex Global’s Next Generation Initiative programme in London to supporting our employees through their Chartered Insurance Institute exams.

This year we have been fortunate enough to host Marcus Roe during his university placement year. Working as a Junior Broker within the Marine & Cargo team, Marcus has been a great addition and asset, supporting both the technical and broking teams and making the most of the opportunity. Next month he will be leaving us to resume his studies in Business Economics at University of Reading, but before he leaves, we asked him to tell us a bit about his experience at GAWS.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁?
My initial attraction to this placement was a keenness to learn about the industry within a company that is on the front foot, looking to expand within the sector.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱?
My placement has been structured within the Marine department within GAWS, helping out with a variety of tasks necessary to service policies and meet our client’s needs.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗔𝗪𝗦?
The most unique part of working at GAWS is the adaptability of everyone to help each other and fill in when required.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗔𝗪𝗦 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲?
GAWS has changed my perspective of insurance positively, showing me all the opportunity and variety the industry has to offer, engaging with different markets to service clients from many different industries every day.

𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝗚𝗔𝗪𝗦 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀?
Innovative, collaborative and collegiate

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗔𝗪𝗦?
I would highly recommend GAWS for anyone interested in insurance, no matter what sector. They are a company who treats you like a long-time employee as soon as you enter the door for the first time and they look to bring the best out of you for the whole period.

Thank you so much Marcus, it has been a pleasure to have you here, working alongside us, and we wish you all the best for your return to university next month.
